Manage organization

The first three tabs of the administration panel: who belongs to the organization, how work is split into projects, and where the data comes from.

The order of the relationships between these areas tends to cause confusion. Data flows into sources, sources get assigned to projects, and people detected in the data appear as accounts.

Scope of the individual tabs

Users and Teams is the list of all organization accounts and the team tree. Accounts arise in two ways: manually, or automatically when scanning a repository detects a new commit author. This is also where you set the account status, and it is the status that decides whether a given person is visible in statistics at all.

Projects is the list of Q247 projects along with their details: assigned sources, additional classification rules, and an optional override of the Flow Metrics boundaries. A project is the unit data is read in, so how you split things into projects translates directly into how readable the dashboards are.

Sources is the full register of data flowing into Q247, regardless of project assignment. Repositories appear here automatically, discovered by the plugin. Jira and Confluence integrations are added by hand, by providing a project or space key.

What operations a given person can perform in Projects and Sources is decided by their access to the specific project, described in Permissions.

Common mistakes

Account status decides visibility in statistics

People detected during repository scanning get the Other status by default and do not enter project or team statistics. Until you change their status, dashboards will stay empty despite a correctly working integration. The procedure is described in Starting code analysis.

A repository belongs to exactly one project. Assigning it to another project detaches it from the previous one, without a warning. One project can have many repositories, and that is usually how it should be.

Repositories are not added by hand. They appear on the source list on their own, once a connector is configured. Only Jira and Confluence sources are added manually.
